Online Safety

At St James' we aim to provide children with life skills for their future and the tools to protect themselves online. One of those life skills is using the online world safely and responsibly. If you wish to know more about online safety or would like any advice for managing your child's use of the internet, apps, or social media, click the links below to find out more or contact us- we will be happy to help.

We use filters in school so that the children do not access any harmful or inappropriate content whilst in school.  We do feel that it is important to teach them how to keep themselves safe online too so that they have the tools to use outside of the school environment.

Our Online Safety Policy is regularly reviewed to keep up with fast moving developments in the digital world.

We have a nominated Online Safety Governor-  Mrs Kerry Lunn.

Our Curriculum

Online Safety is covered through our Computing Curriculum and through PHSE.  We use a teaching resource known as Kapow to sequence learning and aid coverage.
Additionally we base our policies and our coverage on the UK Council for Internet Safety's (UKCIS) framework “Education for a Connected World” with perspectives; research; activities; outcomes; supporting resources and professional development materials. The content has been written by a team of experts at the UK Safer Internet Centre. It is up to date; relevant and engaging and moves online life education into the third decade of the 21st century.  It is also the same framework upon which the government's Project Evolve was based.

Support for Parents
This website offers excellent advice on how to support your child and talk to them on a range of online issues including fake news, screen time and inappropriate content. It also has guides on specific apps or online games as well as how to set up devices and parental controls.

For children this is a great resource to help them think about some the issues they may face online and how best to deal with them.

Additionally we utilise resources from Project Evolve.
