Class 6 - Meditation

Lesson: Religious education

Class: Church Links & RE Year: 2018 - 2019

After reflecting on why Buddha meditated we decided to try it out for ourselves. We dimmed the lights and lit a candle and gathered our thoughts. The classroom was so quiet and the children really focussed on their breathing, breathing in positive experiences of the day and while exhaling the negative things. When the children had fully emptied their minds of the hustle and bustle of the day we went on a journey to the beach, the children were so calm and quiet that they actually thought they were there. George P said he could feel the sand between his toes, while Sophia felt the coldness of the sea. Livvy was playing tag on the beach with her brother. Marcie and George E said they felt calm, relaxed and happy.

I asked the children to think about one word to describe the class during and after the meditation. The children said, peaceful, calm, relaxed and happy.
