Bassenthwaite - Stone Age day

Class: Mrs Pickering - Bassenthwaite Year: 2022 - 2023

We walked down to the Whitehaven harbour youth project for our Stone Age day. We had an action packed day with the children taking part in archery, a scavenger hunt (orienteering) and baking stone age bread.

We tried really hard at archery and talked about why stone age people would have needed to hunt and what animals they might have hunted.
The harbour was the location for a scavenger hunt. We used maps to locate clues at different places around the harbour, and learnt lots about the animals that might have roamed Whitehaven thousands of years ago.
We also made bread and cooked it on a fire, the same way they would have in the Stone Age. Although we had hot chocolate to drink and nutella on our bread, which might not have been around in the Stone Age!
The weather was a bit soggy at times but it didnt stop our fun and everyone really enjoyed their day.
