Class 6 - identifying common rocks

Class: Miss A Pool - Buttermere Year: 2020 - 2021

Today we explored a range of pebbles and grouped them into rock types. To help identify the rocks we looked at:

- the colour of the rock

- the size of the grains

- the texture of the rock

We then classified the pebbles into 3 groups; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

Next, we had a class competition to see who could build a pebble tower using the most amount of pebbles. We considered how physical weathering had changed the shape of a pebble and selected a range of different ones for our towers. We had great fun trying to build the highest tower.
